From bunnies, to colored eggs, extended family and bright spring fashions its as easy to be distracted and overlook the true meaning of Easter as it is to overlook a lost Easter egg in the grass.
We (humans) seem to have that problem with most holidays. Somehow we let the grass in our lives get a bit too tall and we end up missing the main thing we were trying to focus on. Whether its our finding freedom among the fireworks; a grateful heart in the midst of the feast; or rediscovering an infant king amongst the shopping, gift giving, and hustle and bustle of the season. Mowing the grass, or minimizing the pleasant distractions; allows the true meaning of life’s most precious celebrations to rise to the forefront.
This year, embrace the all joy that the Easter season represents. It is the highest holy day of the year on the Christian calendar. And it should be a day full of profound personal meaning as we remember not only the centerpiece of history, but His story and our story as well.
The Ultimate Love Story
It is the ultimate love story. Man is utterly and hopelessly lost, separated by his own sinful nature from a perfectly holy God. In His amazing grace; God sends His only Son to be born of a woman and to live a perfect llfe, allowing an angry mob to pressure the Roman governor into choosing Jesus for death over a common thief Barrabus (who represents us).
After a humiliating and painful death by crucifixtion (again note the extent of God’s love for us!) Jesus is resurrected by the power of God to demonstrate to all for all time that his sacrifice was effective in forgiving our sins and that just as God raised Jesus from the grave that someday He too will raise our changed and transformed bodies as well.
The Focal Point of History
Our Christian faith hinges on this one central point in history.
If the resurrection of Jesus Christ was not a historical event, then mankind is hopelessly lost in sin.
If Jesus was not raised from the dead then we have no hope of being raised someday either.
The empty tomb, hundreds of witnesses, and millions of changed lives later bear witness to veracity of the resurrection of Christ.
Tips for Finding the Egg Among the Tall Grass
This is a season to focus and grow both you and your family’s faith.
Read the Gospels, Meditate on and discuss the passion accounts (death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus) in the gospels as well as I Corinthians 15.
Read books like Evidence that Demands a Verdict by Josh McDowell (especially the section; Lord, Liar or Lunatic)
Watch movies of the season that help remind us of the foundations of our faith.
Worship Him, who is the centerpiece of our hope and faith! Pray & Sing to Him and express your heartfelt love & thanks.
This is truly a day and season worth celebrating for all the right reasons. For He has risen! Let us all rejoice! Let us all with all sincerity and passion pray, say & sing out the most appropriate word(s) of all...Hallelujah! Praise God!
